The End Of The Beginning
Winston Churchill had a famous saying, “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” I can’t help but think that this quote sums up the state of the far left liberal segment of American politics. Whereas just as recently as one-two years ago, the Dems were boasting of a forty-year rule. I think it’s now safe to discard that comment from James Carville as a boastful and wishful comment.
Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts was the exclamation point to a yearlong decline in support for the Democrats. On President Obama’s inauguration day of January 20, 2009, the Democrats were riding a strong wind at their back with two very convincing election victories in a row – the mid-term elections of 2006 and the regular election of 2008. During these two election cycles, the Democrats gained large numbers of seats in Congress and reclaimed the White House. Political pundits were making claims that Republicans had lost their way and that the Democrats were positioned to maintain power for years.
That probably is not going to happen if we assume that the NJ, VA and MA elections are an indication. And it’s not a stretch to think that they might signal the end of the beginning for Democrats. It is clear that the momentum has changed, the mood of the country has been cast and you can see it in how the Democrats are reacting to the Brown victory. No longer do we see Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi grinning like cheshire cats as they ram unwanted legislation down our throats. No longer do we see Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Dick Durbin, Alan Grayson, et al, boasting how they are doing what the people have mandated them to do.
The tide is certainly turning with the American people. President Obama’s polls continue to fall, and the bloom is clearly off the rose. I think we are going to see a meltdown in the coming weeks or months. The MSM seems to be finally taking notice of the problems in this administration and Democrats losing support from independents and moderates at an alarming rate. That is why the Democrats need to be concerned because they might very well be seeing the end of the beginning of their anticipated forty year rule.
Here is a video clip from the Sean Hannity show last night where Ann Coulter and Pad Caddell discuss where the Democrats may want to go from here:
