Coakley vs Brown – Another Shot Heard ‘Round The World?

I cannot help but think that the special election between Martha Coakley and Scott Brown for Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat, may be viewed as the second time in American history that Massachusetts fires the shot heard ’round the world. Not much more than a week ago, it was almost unthinkable that Brown could pull this off in a traditionally deep blue, heavily Democrat state.

The real surprise is where Brown’s support is coming from. By probing into the internals of the various polls, it is becoming obvious that Brown has made his resurgence on the backs of independents and conservative Democrats – two groups that overwhelmingly voted for Obama in 2008. In addition, there are other groups that are offering their support of Brown, such as police unions and other organizations that have stepped up with their endorsement and financial support.

This major shift in Massachusetts poses a real problem for Democrats and especially Barack Obama’s socialist agenda. Brown becomes the 41st Republican in the Senate, effectively ending the Democrat party’s march to socialism. Various comments made on the Boston papers’ blogs show many residents of Massachusetts imploring their neighbors to stop the march by standing up against Coakley and her probable lapdog status in the Obama, Reid, Pelosi liberal machine.

This is an historic event that provides the opportunity that many conservatives have been seeking, and that is finding a way to stop the freight train that at one point seemed unstoppable. Many pundits are writing that a Brown victory is the end of healthcare reform as written now. But it goes way past healthcare and will also impact other legislation under consideration by the Democrats, including cap and trade, employee free choice act, additional stimulus programs and many other legislative programs in the Democrat agenda.

Coakley has not done a lot to help herself. I think the biggest mistake she made was going to Washington for the fundraising dinner with the healthcare loobbyists, which then led to the ensuing scramble with the Weekly Standard reporter John McCormack and Coakley’s aid Michael Meehan. This was a watershed moment that opened a lot of eyes that Coakley’s loyalties might not really be in the interests of her Massachusetts constituents.

Scott Brown has a legitimate opportunity to pull this off. There have been reports that he is raising over $1,000,000 per day for the last week, and his poll numbers are surging. There are 4 more days until the election, and at this rate, Brown’s win may just be the shot heard ’round the world and stop the Obama socialist agenda.

While this makes sense and I don’t disagree, you have to wonder if Sarah Palin would support it if Rush said it and called it satire ;) jk
