Cynicism and Pessimism In America
As we wait to see what happens in the Massachusetts special election today, there is another key milestone this week that bears watching. That is the one-year anniversary of Barack Obama being sworn in as the President on January 20, 2009. Much has changed in America during the past twelve months since the inauguration and we are seeing some of the cynicism and pessimism in America play out in the Massachusetts special election.
No matter what happens in the election today, it would be very difficult to not view what has happened with the Brown campaign over the last few weeks as a repudiation of the Obama agenda. All across America, normal everyday people are fed up with the direction that those in power in Washington have decided to take this country and are standing up to say enough is enough. If Brown is able to come out as the winner, the Democrat agenda will be severely hampered – and that is what the excitement around this special election is really all about.
The Obama administration has already done a lot of harm to America and given their way with a super majority of Congress would continue with their damaging policies. The tea party movement, the anger at the town halls, the 9/12 march on Washington and now the Massachusetts special elections have all been driven by the same thing – the American people do not agree with the direction that our once great country is heading.
What is driving this cynicism and pessimism in America? Very simply, it’s the Democrat agenda that is completely out of touch with the American people, built around the failed policies of the Obama administration and Democrat controlled Congress:
- domestic policy – The Dems have tried to cram down multiple legislation on the American people with such ill-conceived policies on Healthcare, Cap and Trade, Employee Free Choice Act and many others. With unbridled power of the super majority the Dems gloated that they had the votes to pass anything they wanted, although they were never able to get most of these policies passed. But their intentions were to “fundamentally change” the country as we know it, and Americans stood up en masse to say No!
- war on terrorism – This is actually a term that is not even used any longer by the Administration, but Americans are scared. Recent attacks or potential attacks like the underwear bomber on Christmas day, or the Fort Hood shooter, have raised the alert for Americans that this administration may not be doing everything they can to protect the American people.
- jobs and the economy – There are very few people that have not been affected by the downturn in the economy. This administration has bungled the economy every step of the way and their policies have actually hurt more than they have helped. And to add insult to injury they make bogus claims about jobs they have created to “show” that the economy is improving. In short, the American people know the truth and are not buying the snake oil being sold by this administration.
- special interests – Back room deals, payoffs, bribes and outright vote buying has appalled the American people. Very clearly this administration does not have the people’s best interest at heart and these types of deals are intended only for political gain. Americans who are already hurting are seeing these payoffs as massive government spending of their hard earned tax money.
- immigration reform – Our borders are still porous letting illegal immigrants stream into this country only to then demand services provided from the American government. The result is more tax dollars required for entitlement programs and potentially taking jobs away from Americans who are out of work. On top of that there is talk of amnesty to grant upwards of 20 million illegal immigrants to gain American citizenship without earning it. Americans are saying enough is enough, this is a huge problem area that needs to get resolved.
There are probably others that could be listed but these are the primary drivers of the angst that is changing the political landscape. While many are saying that a Brown win is the “shot heard ’round the world“, the fact is, that this election is the result of twelve months of Americans being pushed around by an out-of-control government only interested in their own agenda. Today is hopefully the repudiation of that agenda as Massachusetts once again leads this country into a political revolution.
