Obama and Team Are Missing the Message

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle...

The Democrats just don’t get it. We have presidential adviser David Axelrod saying that President Obama is feeling feisty. We have campaign consultant David Plouffe telling us that the Democrats are pushing ahead with their agenda. We have President Obama telling us the reason his point has not gotten across is because he hasn’t communicated with us well enough or spread his message enough, even though he’s given 150+ speeches and 400+ interviews. Most of these have been very substantive (from his point of view) about their agenda and why it is good for America.

By all appearances over the last few days, the Democrats plan to continue their assault on the American people – and the Constitution – with government programs that nobody wants financed with money we do not have. I guess they did not get the message that the people sent with Scott Brown’s win in the Massachusetts Senate seat special election. It apparently has not reasonated with them that the American people are fed up with their initiatives and the peril they face for continuing to push their agenda.

How much louder could the message have been? Brown won a Senate seat that had been in the Democrats’ hands almost exclusively for the last 75 years. The state – affectionately know as the people’s republic of Massachusetts – is a bellwether Democrat state with only 12% of the residents identifying themselves as Republicans. But, the Democrats did not get the message. They are laser focused on their liberal agenda and it appears nothing will stop them in their quest to get it pushed through.

This is going to be an interesting week, leading up to Obama’s State Of The Union address on Wednesday evening. This event was to be his shining moment, the crowning of his agenda and the commencement of nationalized health care. Now the message will have to be changed and restructured, the focus will have to be moved.

In Ohio on Friday, Obama tried to refocus on jobs and the economy as the administration tried to pivot away from health care. But throughout his speech he made numerous references to health care and how it was crucial to getting the economy back on track. The message fell on deaf ears and most political pundits agree that he failed once again to sell the need for health care.

So that brings us back to the State Of The Union address. What will his message be? Can he really make the hard pivot to jobs and the economy as we are being told? Can he possibly get through the address without playing the bogeyman on health care? How many times will he blame Bush for the mess that he has created? Will he be angry and defiant as he was in Ohio?

This is possibly the most important speech that Obama will ever give. If he fails in convincing the people that his team has a plan to get us out of this economy, or if he continues pushing his liberal agenda that most Americans do not want, or if he continues to push blame on someone else, this speech will seal his fate. It’s time for him to move to the middle to serve all Americans but it really is not in his makeup for such a move. Doing so would require that he has a soul, that he has compassion for the millions of Americans that are suffering and that he takes his eyes off his own political agenda. I do not think he has what it takes to do this and as a result, his loss of support outside of his handpicked team of advisers will continue to erode.

So long Mr. Obama . . . you will go down in history as the most arrogant President ever and also the worst President in American history.
