The Democrats’ Newfound “Religion”
Well, isn’t this special. Suddenly, Democrats are realizing that the American people are fed up with big government, higher taxes and excessive spending. We have Democrats coming out of the woodwork trying to explain why they lost the Massachusetts seat and how the party needs to moderate. If you saw Robert Gibbs’ press briefing yesterday, he mentioned voter frustration and anger at least 15 times. Is this a new revelation for them that the American populace is angry? Did they not notice the tea parties and town halls last year?
How this Massachusetts special election plays out remains to be seen. But it’s almost comical that within 24 hours of the stunning Republican victory by Scott Brown, so many Democrats have spoken out. We already have had Ben Nelson, Evan Bayh, Claire McCaskill, Chuck Schumer and others stating that maybe the Democrat party had pushed too far, too fast. In affect they are admitting a repudiation of Obama’s policies without really saying
The question is, are the Democrats really sincere with these statements or are they just providing another smoke screen to hide their intentions. I’m very skeptical because one, they have not really been honest about anything in the last 12 months, and two, they have a lot of political capital invested in their government takeover of the private markets, that it is going to be very difficult to walk back any of what they have done.
Part of the reason that the American people are so frustrated and angry (using Robert Gibbs’ own words) is because the Democrats have been so disingenious on how they have approached all the radical legislation they are pursuing. This has come in the form of blatantly making back room deals with the Congressmen and women they needed to buy off, blatantly making bribes to special interests like unions and government workers, and blatantly arrogant behavior and statements that they had the power to do whatever they wanted to do – and there is nothing anyone could do to stop them.
Well thanks to Scott Brown those days are now history and the Democrats are suddenly faced with the realization that no legislation will get through without at least one Republican vote. So their newfound “religion” is to have certain members step out and offer conciliatory statements to suggest that they had overreached their mandates.
I hate to be cynical and skeptical, but honestly, I am not buying it. And I hope the Republican Congress members do not buy it either, until the Democrats prove that this is not just more example of the same lying and cheating that we have seen over the last 12 months from this administration.

I have been a reader for a long while, but this is my first time as a commenter. I just wanted to say that this has been / is my favorite post of yours! Keep up the good work and I’ll keep on coming back.
Horray! Let’s make is an annual event! Spending into insolvency.
That most important event is Tom Crean leaving Marquette to go coach IU..won’t turn out well for the Hoosiers, but we at MU love it more every day.
I have a close friend who was a high-level official in Evan Bayh’s administration when he was governor of Indiana. He has always referred to Bayh as “conservative” – and I always tacked on the addendum “for a Democrat.” I sent him an email wondering if Bayh is having difficulty reconciling his essentially centrist view with the pressure to align with his party leadership’s leftist views. I think there are a lot of Democrats that may be in that situation. The party’s leadership seems to have been taken over by socialists who have no room for differing views.
