The Second American Revolution

BOSTON - JANUARY 11: State Sen. Scott Brown a...

The second America revolution is playing out right in front of our eyes. Who would have thought a year ago with the emancipation – er, ah, inauguration – of Obama, that the Republicans would ever have the opportunity to steal the Democrat Senate seat occupied by Ted Kennedy. I’m not sure you could have found anyone to take that wager. This Senate seat was held by Kennedy since 1962 and most of the time there was not even a serious contender running against him.

Massachusetts is the bluest of blue states, a state that has not had a Republican Sentaor since 1979 when Edward Brooke lost the election after two terms to Paul Tsongas, who held it for one term before giving way to current Senator John Kerry. In fact, for the seat vacated at Kennedy’s death, there has only been a Republican in place for one term (six years) going all the way back to 1926, when Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. held the seat from 1947 – 1953. Since then the seat has been held by John F. Kennedy, Benjamin A. Smith who was appointed to complete JFK’s term, Ted Kennedy, and Paul Kirk who was appointed to fill Ted Kennedy’s term.

So don’t take this potential victory too lightly. This is a ground-breaking, earth shaking moment we are about to witness that can only be summarized as the second American revolution.

There is no doubt in my mind that a Republican win in Massachusetts is a referendum on Obama and just like the “shot heard ’round the world” to kick off the first revolution, should be a strong and loud signal to this administration that the people are not happy. Reports out of the White House are talking about panic across the Democrat rank and file, because if something like this can happen in Massachusetts, other Congress men and women know that it’s very likely to happen in their district.

In less than 48 hours we will know the results of the Massachusetts special election. It will likely take much longer than that to understand the ramifications of this election, especially if Brown pulls this off as is now expected. That in itself is sending shockwaves through the Democrats, because just 60 days ago, Coakley held a 30-point lead in the polls. This was supposed to be another cakewalk for the Democrats to fill the Senate seat that many considered unwinnable by the Republicans.

In any event, no matter which candidate wins or loses, this race has brought a higher sense of focus to the wide split between the conservative and liberal movements. Brown has openly stated he will be the 41st vote against Obamacare, and Coakley just the opposite, basically saying she will be Obama’s lapdog and help him push his agenda through to fruition.

If we didn’t learn in 2008, elections have consequences. A Brown win clearly shows that Americans are fed up and are willing to stand their ground to fight for what they think is right for this country. A second American revolution is about to begin and hopefully will be accomplished at the ballot box instead of the end of a gun.

I predict Brown by 7 points . . . Washington, can you hear us now?

I object to the authors use of the word “steal” The context: “Who… would have thought…the Republicans would ever have the opportunity to steal the Democrat seat occupied by Ted Kennedy.”

My objection: “IF” Mr. Brown is elected by the voters of the state of Mass. to the United States Senate. It shall not be because he and those who voted for him STOLE the election. His victory if there is to be a brown victory will have been won with the votes of a free people while participating in a lawful election. Thank you.

I agree with you, I probably could have used a better word than steal. I was only trying to imply that this is such an unlikely opportunity for the Republicans to pick up a seat that has been held almost exclusively by the Democrats in the bluest of blue states.

Thank you for sharing your point of view and your thoughts.

‘Steal the Democrat Senate seat’….Gee, you mean it’s not the ‘people’s seat’? Oh, and yes it will be the ‘Scott heard around the world’. And I have previously posted elsewhere, On Wednesday after the Brown win, I will call the white house and contact all of my Representatives, and say, ‘can you hear us now’?

On stimulus…what is not appreciated by democrats is that a public sector job is very different than a private sector one. The public sector job produces NOTHING. Worse, It takes at least 3-4 private sector jobs to support a public sector job. We do have necessary services that should come from the public sector, but overdoing it is not a solution, it is a PROBLEM. Democrats have been happy solving one problem (recessions) with another (public sector jobs).
